Dr. Kavanagh’s journey into veterinary medicine ignited at age six when she first rode a horse, sparking a deep fascination with all things equine. Growing up in Spokane, Idaho, she dedicated herself to caring for horses, competing in local shows, and honing her skills in the arena. It was a pivotal moment when one of her horses became lame, leading her to meet a veterinarian for the first time, fueling her determination to become one herself.
Her passion for solving puzzles merged seamlessly with her love for animals, propelling her into veterinary medicine. Dr. Kavanagh found fulfillment in diagnosing and treating sick pets, seeing each case as a unique challenge to unravel. She developed a particular interest in dentistry, advocating tirelessly for proper dental care for pets, believing it to be essential for overall well-being.
In addition to dentistry, Dr. Kavanagh excelled in ophthalmology and internal medicine, collaborating with specialists to uncover underlying causes of complex issues. Preventative care became a cornerstone of her practice, as she aimed to empower pet owners with knowledge and tools to keep their companions healthy. Beyond clinical work, she dedicated herself to raising awareness and promoting responsible pet ownership in her community, driven by her passion for animals and commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine.
Sylvia Hernandez is driven by an unwavering belief that every living creature deserves love and care. Her lifelong devotion to animals began in her early childhood, as she grew up surrounded by the loving presence of pets. Raised by parents who shared her deep passion for animals, Sylvia learned the importance of nurturing and cherishing these remarkable beings.
Animals have always held a special place in Sylvia’s heart. They possess a unique ability to offer solace in times of sadness, despair, or frustration, their silent companionship serving as a source of comfort and understanding. Sylvia’s early experiences instilled in her a profound love and respect for animals.
However, the heart-wrenching images of suffering animals portrayed in the media haunted Sylvia, motivating her to take action against cruelty. She firmly believes that many of the pain and misery endured by these innocent creatures could have been prevented. Sylvia is on a mission to make a difference and contribute to the well-being of animals in need.
Her role at Stanton Pet Hospital provides her with the opportunity to extend her compassion and expertise to animals and their loving guardians. Whether it’s offering guidance to pet parents seeking financial assistance, providing comfort to frightened pets, or consoling worried owners, Sylvia finds purpose and fulfillment in her work.
While witnessing animals in pain remains difficult, Sylvia derives immense satisfaction from being able to alleviate their suffering. Her dedication stems from the belief that every animal, regardless of its species or circumstances, deserves love and care. Animals possess an innate capacity for forgiveness and unwavering loyalty, qualities that inspire Sylvia to advocate on their behalf.

From my earliest memories, I’ve cherished the importance of family—a value that remains at the core of my being. Their steadfast support has empowered me to appreciate life’s simple pleasures. While I initially pursued dreams of becoming a social worker after high school, my true passion for animals soon became apparent.
Animals have always held a special place in my heart, from my childhood to the present. At home, I’m accompanied by four beloved dogs—Lucky, Charm, Macie, and Mac. Embracing the path of a veterinary technician felt like a natural calling, though not without its obstacles.
My journey in this field has been marked by challenges and moments of self-doubt. However, the memory of my late grandmother, who passed away in April, serves as a profound source of inspiration. Her legacy has fueled a deep passion within me for the work I do.
I am steadfast in my dedication to animal well-being. Each day at work brings a mix of anticipation and nerves as I confront the unpredictable challenges of veterinary care. While demanding, this field is incredibly rewarding. Witnessing animals recover from their ailments fills me with unparalleled satisfaction. It’s not merely about treating animals; it’s about ensuring their overall health and happiness.
Every day presents new cases and scenarios, requiring quick thinking and unwavering dedication. Yet, I remain resolute in my mission to provide the best care for every animal I encounter.
From the moment I was five days old, freshly out of the hospital and barely acquainted with my crib, my parents brought two kittens into my life. It’s a story I’ve been told, as I couldn’t remember those days. I didn’t even know their names until I was about a year old, and I christened them Gonk (the boy) and Geene (the girl). These were my first words – “mama” and “dada” had to wait their turn. It was a start, they say, of my lifelong affection for animals.
Over the years, my home saw a revolving door of adoptions and rescues, from cats and dogs to guinea pigs, rats, snakes, and the occasional gremlin. It was a path that inevitably led me to dedicate my life to animals. In high school, I took my first steps into the animal world as a kennel and groomer assistant. In college, I embarked on my Animal Health Technology program, striving to become a veterinary technician.
I took an oath, a commitment to assist any animal in need that crossed my path. And now, more than 30 years later, I remain true to that oath, though some days my body may protest. I know there may come a time when I must step back from the role of a technician, but I hope that day remains in the distant future.
My work team is my family, pure and simple. We have our moments of getting on each other’s nerves, but they all know that my phone is always on for them. Day or night, whether it’s a question about their schoolwork or even a late-night pickup from a bar at 2 a.m., I am there for them, unwavering.
I understand that it’s not always easy, and I’m far from perfect. But if you approach me and say, “Hey, after work, can you go over this with me?” I won’t ask questions. I will always make time for them, no matter what.
As a Californian, my lifelong passion has centered on understanding and nurturing the well-being of a diverse array of animals. This fascination first took root during my childhood when I assumed responsibility for caring for an exotic pet. The profound contrast between caring for an exotic pet and a dog left an indelible impression on me, illuminating the exceptional nature of animals across the globe.
It’s truly remarkable how these diverse creatures rely on one another and their environments to sustain their unique ways of life. I firmly believe that the essence of compassionate and ethical veterinary care lies in not only tending to the needs of the pets but also in fostering effective communication with their owners. When both the pet owner and the veterinarian are aligned in their understanding and commitment, it ignites a powerful motivation to collaborate for the betterment of the beloved companion animal.
Witnessing pets receive the necessary medical care and observing tangible improvements in their health and overall quality of life brings an immense sense of satisfaction. It’s a gratifying experience when a pet owner enters our practice, leaves more informed about their pet’s health, and watches their cherished companion continue to thrive in a state of happiness and well-being.
Beyond my professional life, I relish spending quality time with friends and family, engaging in various activities such as games, leisurely walks, or enjoying the culinary delights of our local restaurants as the day draws to a close.
